The worst maintenance is the one nobody knew about. Before any planned window we schedule it on the status page so the maintenance banner shows in advance — the announcement is part of the work.
The checklist
- ▸Announce at least 24 hours ahead for planned maintenance
- ▸Mark the affected services so the banner targets the right ones
- ▸Update the window to “completed” the moment work finishes
- ▸Follow up with a summary if anything went sideways
The golden rule
If users have to ask “is it down or is it me?”, the status page failed. A scheduled maintenance banner is cheap; the confusion it prevents is not.
